my return to blogging

It has been quite a while since I've used this whole blogspot thing. I figure it would be healthy to get back into writing down some of my thoughts. Currently I am back at home with my family for the summer. I will probably be here for about a month. My initial intent for coming home was to get foot surgery. After going to the foot doctor yesterday and being talked out of surgery for the time being, I decided that is probably the smartest choice for now, considering it takes 8 weeks to heal and I begin school in the middle of August. who wants to be on crutches for that long. yuck. I guess I will just have to wait for a bigger gap of time in which foot surgery can proceed.

I just finished watching a documentary called addicted to plastics. It approached the problem of our addiction to plastics and the danger that plastics can have on our environment. It revealed the terrifying reality of overflowing land fills and a plastic soup that we call the ocean. This scary reality of trash filling up our world really hit me. I even started to think about what I could do as far as work related to this. environmental engineering? I guess it's something to think about, especially since I have summer on my hands right now. We'll see where God wants me. For now, I want to stop using plastic bags and find out where my recycled trash is really going.

keeping cool

The last 2 weeks have been some of the best so far this summer. I traveled to California with my mom and sisters where we spent the 4th of july in newport. we met up with 2 of my best friends and got to enjoy some sweet fireworks overlooking the harbor. Earlier that day the beach was packed. we got to play in the ocean water which was nice. it was freezing, which was a change. Not to mention, it was pretty chilly the rest of the night. This was definitely different from the 115 degree weather i have been facing at home in mesa.
The next day my mom dropped Phoebe and I off at Biola where we would be enjoying soccer camp for the next week. I was stoked because Phoebe was finally old enough to participate and also just because i love getting away for a week to hang out with kids and play soccer. The campers had 4 practices a day and some of my teammates and I were there to help coach. We were also in charge of the girls throughout the entire week. I really enjoyed my time at camp. I got to spend a lot of time just being a kid and having fun with the campers. One of my favorite moments was watching my sister Phoebe at the talent show. She peeled and ate an entire lemon in front of everyone. This was not only surprising because i know how shy she can be, but also because she was the youngest camper (atleast by 2 years). It was the funniest thing that I have ever seen. along with the talent show many other memories were made:
learning how to play ninja with the day campers
taking the campers to the seahorse game
seeing all of the campers from last year
playing soccer
seeing robert and anya
watching the talent show

After camp Nikki let Phoebe and I stay at her house. That night Her and Erin took us to play indoor soccer, which seemed to be futsal. Anyways, it was the sickest indoor soccer experience I have ever had. The venue was awesome and the guys that worked and played soccer there were legit. They had baller skills and were super awesome. It was cool to have Phoebe play in one of the games with us too. Playing indoor helps me get back into my foot skills so fast. I had a rad time there and hope to go back when i get back to biola again in the fall.

On the way to the airport when I thought all of the fun was over i remembered that john would be visiting me in arizona. in fact, we both arrived at the phoenix airport at the same time that day. reunited again alas. i love big hugs.

When John got here we were connected at the hip, as usual. we got to hang out and be best buddies the whole week. my favorite thing we did was go camping up north with my mom, sisters, cousin, and aunt. john and i drove together in the truck with phoebe. I love road trips with John. i love listening to music with him too and anytime my sisters are there its even more fun. I'm glad he loves hanging out with my sisters. i can't remember the last time i slept under the stars, not to mention the most starry sky in arizona. I thought about God, about his beautiful creation, about my significance. God is bigger than we can imagine. I thank Him for loving me.

camping brought some hard times for the adults. my mom and aunt broke the pop up trailer. it wouldn't pop up anymore. it was a pain. we stood in the sun for hours trying to fix it without any results. camping is all about working so this was good, just extra and unexpected. it will be cheap for my aunt to fix. we got it to pop up half way just enough for 3 people to sleep in it. i always slept outside with nature. one of the days we were there we went to mogollan rim. we hiked to the actual rim where there was a huge drop off. it was epic. i will put up a picture.
john took video diaries of the trip. he makes me laugh, a lot. those are on my facebook if you want to watch.

after getting home from camping we were no longer able to enjoy nature. we were inside the whole week, 120 degrees outside. there were a few days, 3 or 4, where we were sure it was going to storm. it never did. the sky was beautiful though, and we got to watch some sweet lightning shows. We also went to the mall, saw the movie away we go (which i loved), went swimming one night, cooked in the kitchen a lot, and hung out with my sisters everyday (helped zoe pick out a bible too).
on friday it was spongebob's tenth year anniversary, the 50 hour marathon of spongebob started. we were very happy about this. john had to leave saturday though, today. we know it will only be another month until we see each other again. I guess it's time to get back to work. The last two weeks were righteous. I love making memories. i miss john.
